The St. John Baptist De La Salle Award is in recognition for extensive stewardship in the mission of Newport Central Catholic High School. This morning, Rev. Roger J. Foys, D.D., Bishop of Covington was presented this honor prior to a student performance of the Little Shop of Horrors.
Principal Ron Dawn shared with the audience, “Our special guest today, Bishop Foys believes in the value of a catholic education and he has been extremely supportive of our mission here at Newport Central Catholic. We are very thankful for all he does for our school community. It is an honor to recognize Bishop Foys and present him with this very deserving St. John Baptist De La Salle award.”
Bishop Foys and the Diocese of Covington annually supports Newport Central Catholic with significant funds for a tuition assistance program where students from all financial backgrounds can experience a Catholic education at NCCHS.
Bishop Foys congratulated the cast and crew and addressed the NCC student body and grade school guests. He said in part, “Newport Central Catholic is a jewel in the crown of our Diocese. Be thankful for all that you have here and enjoy this special chapter because life goes fast.”
Rev. Roger J. Foys was installed as the 10th Bishop of Covington in July of 2002.
