Recently, Mrs. JoAnna Loechel announced her decision to step down as assistant principal. In June, she will leave Newport Central Catholic after 18 years.
Mrs. Loechel began her teaching career at Newport Central Catholic High School as a student teacher in 1999. In 2000, she was hired as a full time English teacher and served as department chair. Additionally, she served as the moderator for National Honor Society from 2002 – 2013 and the advisor for the Governor’s Scholar Program at NCC. In 2009, she became Assistant Principal and has continued to do so while teaching Advanced Placement English.
Mrs. Loechel commented, "Over the course of 18 years of service at NCC, I have been privileged to be surrounded by many wonderful and talented students, families, teachers, and staff; I truly have been blessed. While I am sad to be leaving NCC, I know God is calling me to the next chapter of my life, and when He calls, we answer. Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your lives."
Principal Ron Dawn was quoted as saying, "We are losing an outstanding employee. We thank JoAnna for her many years of commitment to NCC and dedication to our students. Newport Central Catholic and its students have benefited immensely from her tireless work ethic and passion for education. JoAnna is a rigorous Advanced Placement English Teacher, and her students leave well prepared for college. Under her administrative role, she has built a strong and successful academic curriculum. One upon which we will continue to build. During her tenure as teacher and assistant principal she has been a great mentor and advisor for so many of our students. We wish JoAnna nothing but the best as she pursues other passions.”
After an interview process, Mr. Dawn announced the appointment of Mrs. Stefanie Piegols as the assistant principal for the 2018-2019 school year.
Mrs. Piegols began her teaching career at NCC in 2004 where she has held the position as the Academic Enhancement Coordinator for 14 years. Extracurricular roles include Student Government and Yearbook Moderator.
