Jimmy and Jan Pangallo and Steve and Kelly Pangallo were recipients of the St. John Baptist De La Salle Awards at Newport Central Catholic's Winners' Circle Event at Paul Brown Stadium on Saturday, November 3rd.
The St. John Baptist de La Salle Award is honored in recognition to those that take part in extensive stewardship in the mission of Newport Central Catholic whether it is by time, talent or treasure. These recipients are often worthy of so much more, but it is a small and worthy way for our school to bring to light the generosity of such supporters at our major events. The award is named after St. John Baptist de La Salle who left his extremely wealthy family to dedicate his life to the mission of the church and education of children. La Salle eventually founded the Christian Brothers who ultimately started Newport Catholic High School.
Principal Ron Dawn stated, “The Pangallos have supported NCC through numerous donations, both in-kind and monetary. Their companies of Vennefron Signs and Pangallo's 27 Auto are staples at every NCC event, but what is most appreciated is their overwhelming time commitment to our school. They have been called upon in numerous occasions to volunteer for a multitude of projects related to our school.”
After receiving the honor, Steve Pangallo commented, “My grandparents came over to this beautiful country in the early 1900s with $2 in their pocket. When my father passed away in 1997, he had about the same amount in his pocket. Before his death, he (along with my wonderful mom) worked hard to feed their eight children and send all to a catholic school. They made time to give back and with their talent and tithing, they were loyal to NewCath. Receiving this stewardship award is humbling and the best trophy I have ever received. I will share it with my extended family in gratitude and honor of our parents and grandparents who instilled work ethic, loyalty, and a heart for donating to worthy causes like the mission of NCC.”
